Future Research Directions RLOSH

The (RLOSH)aims to expand its research activities toward innovative and translational studies that strengthen the understanding of the oral microbiome and its relationship with systemic diseases. The future research directions include:

• Oral microbiome profiling and metagenomic studies to understand microbial dysbiosis associated with periodontal diseases and systemic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disorders.
• Molecular biomarker discovery using salivary diagnostics for early detection of oral cancer, potentially malignant disorders, and systemic diseases.
• Viral–bacterial interactions in oral diseases, focusing on pathogens such as Epstein–Barr virus and other herpes viruses associated with oral lesions.
• Development and evaluation of herbal and natural therapeutic agents for the management of oral infections and biofilm-associated diseases.
• Translational research on oral–systemic disease pathways, integrating clinical, microbiological, and molecular data.
• Nanotechnology and biomaterial-based antimicrobial strategies for improving therapeutic approaches in oral infections.
• Artificial intelligence and bioinformatics approaches for microbiome data analysis and predictive diagnostics.
