Overview

PreCIDenT is a multidisciplinary research and training hub dedicated to advancing infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and evidence-based therapeutics in dentistry. The centre focuses on promoting safe, rational, and sustainable dental care through research, education, and collaboration.

Who We Are

PreCIDenT brings together dentists, microbiologists, pharmacologists, social scientists, infectious disease specialists and public health professionals with a shared mission — to reduce infection risks and improve the quality of dental care. We focus on creating a bridge between clinical practice and public health by integrating science, education, and innovation.

Our Goals and Key Areas of work

Antimicrobial Stewardship in Dentistry – Developing tools and guidelines for prudent antibiotic use.

Infection Prevention and Control – Advancing safe, standardised infection control protocols in dental settings.

Dental Therapeutics – Promoting rational prescribing and pharmacovigilance in dental care.

Education and Capacity Building – Offering workshops and training to empower practitioners and students; Developing e-learning modules and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities on infection control and rational antimicrobial use.

Public Awareness – Engaging communities on the importance of infection prevention and responsible antibiotic use. Promoting awareness about oral-systemic health links.

Collaboration and Research – Collaborative research involving key stakeholders on infection prevention, antimicrobial resistance and dental therapeutics, and translation of evidence into everyday clinical and community practice. Partnering with academia and public health networks.
