Overview

The Human Genetics Research Centre (HGRC) has started functioning since 2010. The Centre focuses on exploring the genetic basis of dental and oral diseases including oral cancer, oral premalignancies and comorbid diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases. HGRC in SBDCH is equipped with DST-FIST (College-as-whole) supported facility to do research in both clinical and basic science. The primary focus of the centre is on genetic variant analysis and biomarker identification in various diseases. The centre actively investigates single nucleotide polymorphism in association with gene regulation using molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches for the development of potential therapeutic strategies and personalized medicine.

Vision

  • HGRC offers a diverse range of research in genetics bound by the common thread of biomedical application for genomic research in dental and systemic health. By integrating cutting-edge genetic technologies with clinical dentistry, the center aims to unravel genetic factors underlying oral and related systemic diseases. Through innovative research, education, and collaboration, the centre strives to identify biomarkers for diagnosis, therapeutics, and personalized treatment strategies. Our vision is to bridge the gap between genetic insights and dental care, fostering healthier communities.

Mission

  • HGRC is dedicated to building an exciting, productive and collaborating environment for research related to clinical application in human genetics. We strive to support students, faculty, and researchers by enhancing the quality and impact of scientific research and publications, developing interdisciplinary approaches to genetic studies, and offering PhD- level research opportunities in basic, applied, and clinical genetics.

Focus Towards:

  • To establish a dedicated centre for biomarker analysis in diseases impacting oral health.
  • To promote research and education on the genetic factors influencing oral and systemic health.
  • To identify genetic predispositions that can guide clinicians in developing personalized prevention and treatment strategies for patients susceptible to dental and the risk of other systemic illness
  • To collaborate with public health organizations and NGOs to extend genetic research outreach to underserved communities and improve awareness of genetic risk factors.
