As part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital, participated in a Press Meet and Television Awareness Campaign at Puthiya Thalaimurai TV Channel on 22nd May 2026. The initiative was undertaken to create public awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to promote the upcoming World No Tobacco Day awareness rally and related community outreach activities.
The media interaction served as an important platform to disseminate evidence-based information regarding the health hazards associated with tobacco consumption, including its role in the development of oral cancer and other serious systemic diseases. Faculty representatives from the Department highlighted the importance of tobacco cessation, early detection of tobacco-related oral conditions, and the need for increased public participation in tobacco control initiatives.
During the television campaign, key messages focusing on tobacco prevention, the benefits of quitting tobacco, and the significance of maintaining good oral and general health were communicated to a wider audience. The upcoming awareness rally organized in connection with World No Tobacco Day was also promoted, encouraging community members to actively participate in the movement towards a tobacco-free society.
The campaign emphasized the vital role of mass media in reaching diverse populations and strengthening public health education. By utilizing television as a medium for awareness, the program successfully extended its outreach beyond conventional community settings and contributed to the dissemination of important tobacco control messages among the general public.
The press meet and television awareness campaign reflected the Department’s commitment to preventive healthcare, community engagement, and public health advocacy. The initiative successfully supported the objectives of World No Tobacco Day 2026 by promoting awareness, encouraging tobacco cessation, and fostering greater community involvement in tobacco prevention efforts.
