In observance of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital, organized a public awareness rally at Elliot's Beach, Besant Nagar, with the objective of educating the community about the harmful effects of tobacco use and promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle.

The rally was conducted by faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, and undergraduate students of the Department of Public Health Dentistry. Participants carried awareness placards and displayed messages emphasizing the dangers of tobacco consumption, the importance of tobacco cessation, and the prevention of tobacco-related diseases, including oral cancer. The rally attracted the attention of the general public and served as an effective platform for disseminating key public health messages.

As part of the awareness campaign, educational pamphlets containing information on the adverse health effects of smoking and smokeless tobacco products, benefits of quitting tobacco, early signs of tobacco-related oral diseases, and available tobacco cessation support services were distributed to members of the public. The interaction provided an opportunity to engage directly with the community and encourage individuals to make informed decisions regarding their health.

The event emphasized the importance of collective action in combating tobacco use and highlighted the role of public awareness in reducing the burden of tobacco-related diseases. Members of the public were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles, support tobacco-free environments, and spread awareness among their families and communities.

The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation and successfully fulfilled its objective of promoting awareness about tobacco prevention and cessation. The program reflected the Department’s commitment to community-oriented health promotion and its active contribution to the goals of World No Tobacco Day 2026 by fostering greater public awareness and encouraging healthier, tobacco-free communities.
