Theme of the Day: “Healthy Smiles at Work” – World No Tobacco Day Awareness and Oral Screening Camp for Corporate Employees
Date: 21.05.2026
Venue: Future Skills IT Company, Kovilambakkam

In observance of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital, organized an Oral Health Awareness and Screening Camp for the employees of Future Skills IT Company at Kovilambakkam on 21st May 2026 under the theme “Healthy Smiles at Work.”

The program was conducted with the objective of raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use, promoting tobacco cessation, and encouraging preventive oral healthcare practices among working professionals. In today’s fast-paced corporate environment, stress, sedentary lifestyles, and unhealthy habits can contribute to tobacco use and neglect of routine health check-ups, increasing the risk of oral and systemic diseases. The camp emphasized the importance of maintaining good oral health as an integral component of overall well-being and workplace wellness.

Faculty members, postgraduate students, and interns from the Department of Public Health Dentistry conducted comprehensive oral screenings for the employees. Participants were educated about the adverse effects of smoking and smokeless tobacco products, the relationship between tobacco use and oral cancer, early signs and symptoms of oral diseases, and the importance of regular dental examinations for early detection and prevention. Employees identified with suspicious oral lesions or tobacco-related oral conditions were counseled and advised to seek further evaluation and management.

Interactive awareness sessions highlighted the benefits of tobacco cessation, strategies for maintaining a tobacco-free lifestyle, and the role of preventive healthcare in improving quality of life. Educational pamphlets containing information on tobacco cessation, oral cancer prevention, oral hygiene maintenance, and healthy lifestyle practices were distributed to all participants to reinforce the key messages of the program.

As part of the outreach activity, toothbrushes and toothpaste kits were distributed to the attendees to encourage the adoption of proper oral hygiene practices. The camp witnessed active participation and appreciation from the employees, reflecting an increasing awareness of the importance of preventive healthcare and tobacco-free living within the corporate sector.

The program successfully highlighted the importance of integrating tobacco awareness and oral health promotion into workplace wellness initiatives. It reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to community-oriented preventive healthcare and the objectives of World No Tobacco Day 2026 by encouraging healthier lifestyles, promoting tobacco cessation, and supporting the early detection of oral diseases.
