In commemoration of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital, organized a Free Dental Check-up and Oral Cancer Awareness Program at Sree Anandha Vinayagar Senior Citizens Home, Medavakkam, on 27th May 2026.
The program was conducted with the objective of promoting oral health awareness among senior citizens and educating them about the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of early detection of oral cancer. A comprehensive dental screening was carried out for the residents, during which their oral health status was assessed and appropriate oral health advice was provided.
An interactive oral health education session was conducted, focusing on the risk factors, warning signs, and preventive measures related to oral cancer. Special emphasis was placed on the adverse effects of tobacco consumption and the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene practices for overall health and well-being.
Educational pamphlets containing information on tobacco cessation, oral cancer prevention, and oral hygiene maintenance were distributed to all participants. The residents actively participated in the program and benefited from the awareness session and dental examination.
The camp was successful in enhancing awareness regarding tobacco-related oral diseases and encouraging preventive oral health practices among the elderly population. The Department of Public Health Dentistry continues its commitment towards community outreach activities aimed at improving oral health and quality of life across all age groups.
