As part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital, conducted a Social Media Awareness Campaign on 1st June 2026 by posting educational reels across social media platforms to create awareness among the public regarding the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of tobacco cessation.
The initiative was undertaken to utilize the wide reach and influence of digital media in disseminating important public health messages to a broader audience. The awareness reels were designed to educate viewers about the adverse effects of smoking and smokeless tobacco products, the increased risk of oral cancer and other tobacco-related diseases, and the benefits of adopting a tobacco-free lifestyle.
The content featured key messages on tobacco prevention, early warning signs of oral diseases, oral cancer awareness, and the importance of maintaining good oral and general health. The reels also encouraged individuals who use tobacco to seek professional support for cessation and highlighted the positive health outcomes associated with quitting tobacco.
By leveraging social media platforms, the campaign successfully engaged viewers across different age groups and communities, promoting awareness in an accessible and interactive manner. The initiative encouraged the public to share the educational content, thereby extending the reach of tobacco control messages and fostering greater community participation in health promotion efforts.
The social media awareness campaign reflected the Department’s commitment to innovative public health education and community outreach. Through the effective use of digital platforms, the program successfully supported the objectives of World No Tobacco Day 2026 by spreading awareness, encouraging tobacco cessation, and advocating for healthier, tobacco-free lifestyles among the public.
