As part of the observance of World No Tobacco Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sree Balaji Dental College & Hospital, organized a Tobacco Free Pledge Ceremony for Health care professionals and outpatients visiting the institution on 23rd May 2026. The activity was conducted with the objective of promoting awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and encouraging individuals to commit to a tobacco-free lifestyle
The pledge ceremony served as an important awareness initiative aimed at motivating patients and their attendants to take a proactive role insafeguarding their health by avoiding tobacco consumption in all its forms. Faculty members, postgraduate students, and interns of the Department actively engaged with the participants and educated them about the adverse effects of tobacco on oral and general health, including its association with oral cancer, periodontal diseases, and various systemic health complications.
Participants were encouraged to take a solemn pledge to refrain from using tobacco products, support tobacco cessation efforts, and spread awareness among their family members and communities regarding the dangers of tobacco use. The pledge emphasized personal responsibility, healthy lifestyle choices, and the importance of creating a tobacco-free environment for future generations.
Educational interactions conducted during the event highlighted the benefits of quitting tobacco, the availability of professional support for tobacco cessation, and the significance of regular oral health check-ups for the early detection of tobacco-related oral diseases. Informative pamphlets on tobacco prevention and oral health promotion were also distributed to reinforce the key messages shared during the program.
The pledge ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from the outpatients and successfully created awareness regarding tobacco control and disease prevention. The event reflected the Department’s commitment to preventive healthcare and public health advocacy while supporting the objectives of World No Tobacco Day 2026 by fostering a collective commitment toward a healthier, tobacco-free society.
