Value added Course

Piezoelectric Surgery in Maxillary Floor Elevation with Simultaneous Implant Placement

Held on 3rd August 2022, this value-added course at Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital offered advanced training in piezoelectric techniques for sinus lift and simultaneous implant placement. The session was presented by Dr. Vijay Ebenezer, Professor & Head, and Dr. Ashok, Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Participants included OMFS postgraduate students, CRIs, and undergraduate students posted in the department. Through live model demonstrations, the course strengthened clinical skills in advanced surgical and prosthetic procedures, equipping learners to manage complex implantology cases with confidence.

Basic Traumatology & First Aid (March 2023)

Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital conducted a skill-based Value Added Course designed to enhance clinical competence in first aid and oral–maxillofacial trauma management. The 4½-month certified program combined structured theory sessions with hands-on training using BLS and Stryker models. Participants were trained in trauma assessment, emergency protocols, fracture basics, and essential OMFS management techniques through lectures, live demonstrations, and case discussions. The course helped dental practitioners build confidence in handling primary trauma cases and delivering immediate patient care. No registration fee was collected. Certificates were awarded by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chennai.

Use of Piezoelectric Surgery in Maxillary Sinus Lift with Simultaneous Implant Placement

In June 2024, the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital conducted a Value Added Course on advanced implantology using piezoelectric surgery. The 4½-month program included structured theory sessions and hands-on training. Participants learned sinus lift principles, CBCT interpretation, anatomical landmarks, bone grafting, and piezoelectric applications for implant placement. Live model demonstrations strengthened clinical confidence in managing atrophied jaws and advanced surgical cases. The course enhanced skills in planning and performing complex prosthetic and surgical procedures. No registration fee was collected, and the training was delivered by senior OMFS faculty.

In March 2020, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital conducted an advanced Value Added Course in Implant Dentistry for postgraduate students and trained general practitioners. The 4½-month program included theory classes and hands-on sessions focused on advanced surgical and prosthetic implant procedures. Participants learned bone biology, CBCT interpretation, surgical guide planning, bone grafting techniques, flap design, suturing, and treatment planning for complex implant cases, including All-on-4 concepts. Clinical demonstrations enhanced skills in managing extraction sites, compromised ridges, and atrophied jaws. The course strengthened confidence in full-arch restorations and advanced implant placement, led by experienced OMFS faculty.

Certificate Course in Management of Fractures

Commenced in September 2020, this 4½-month certificate program included 24 hours of theoretical sessions and 6 hours of hands-on model training using Stryker models. The course offered extensive exposure to clinical fracture management, covering structured lectures, live model demonstrations, and intense laboratory-based skill training. Participants gained practical experience in understanding fracture patterns, stabilization techniques, surgical planning, and essential OMFS protocols required for managing facial fractures effectively.

Certificate Course in Implant Dentistry for Medically Compromised Patients

Commenced in March 2020, this 4½-month certificate program included 24 hours of theory and 6 hours of hands-on model training using advanced implant models. The course focused on implant planning and placement in medically compromised patients, covering risk assessment, treatment modifications, surgical planning, and prosthetic considerations. Participants received exposure to guided surgery models, live demonstrations, and intensive laboratory training designed to enhance confidence and clinical decision-making in complex implant scenarios.

Maxillofacial Trauma Management (September 2020)

Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital conducted a specialised Value Added Course in Maxillofacial Trauma Management in September 2020, designed for BDS graduates, OMFS postgraduates, and practicing surgeons seeking advanced clinical training. The 30-day program included 4 structured modules, covering theoretical sessions, clinical observership, and extensive hands-on training using Stryker trauma models. Participants gained practical exposure to fracture assessment, flap design, suturing techniques, CT interpretation, bone grafting concepts, and management of complications in facial trauma cases. Live surgical demonstrations and emergency room exposure further enhanced their clinical readiness.

The course strengthened participants’ ability to plan and execute trauma surgeries, manage complex fractures, and make informed clinical decisions. It offered a comprehensive, skill-oriented learning experience aligned with real-world OMFS practice.
