Department History

Anatomy is often described as the “tough subject”, however, the stint with anatomy at the department had always spelt magic for all students. The Department of Anatomy was established in the year 1988. We are privileged to say that the Department of Anatomy was started three decades ago. We, being first and foremost department of Basic Sciences departments, work with the sole aim of laying a strong and thorough foundation in the fundamentals of medicine for the under graduates and post graduates.

Our department is placed in the second floor in the campus. It is an active pre-clinical department. It fulfils the required infrastructure and qualified teaching faculty as per DCI norms. In this department, the area of course deals with the human anatomy along with developmental anatomy (embryology), microscopic anatomy (histology), neuroanatomy and genetics caught by extremely dedicated team comprising of experienced senior faculties and energetic young junior staff members.

The department was initiated and headed by Prof. Dr. Helen Rodricks who was extremely passionate about anatomy in the year 1988 followed by Dr. Anantha Raman Iyer added colour and glory. From then on, the fame and name of the college has continued to grow far and wide. Successive professors, Dr. Thiruvengadam and Dr.Kamalesh Sundareswaran have contributed enormously to the development of department and also the college in the year 1999. Prof. Dr Kamalesh Sundareswaran MBBS, MS Anatomy, is our dynamic and senior most faculty who has more than three decades of experience in Tamilnadu Govt. service and 14 years of experience at Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital. Subsequently Dr. G. Sumathy, Ph.D., took over the responsible as the head of the department in February 2016.

Our department is having highly experienced competent and motivated team of faculties, who are efficiently trained to make a student competent by using evidence-based techniques in medical education.
