3^rd National Symposium

The Indian Orthodontic Society’s 3 rd National Symposium on Invisible Orthodontics organized by Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, Chennai in association with the Madras Orthodontic Study Group was conducted between the 15 th -17 th March 2024 at Chennai. With over 300 registrations and 65% of life member delegates, the symposium was well received and applauded for its scientific content and organization.

The Inaugural program was held at The Accord Metropolitan, Chennai with Organizing Secretary Dr Vijay Adhith C, Chairman – Scientific Committee Dr Gnana Shanmugham K, Organizing Chairman Dr MS Kannan, MOSG convenor Dr Shahul Hameed Faizee, Vice President IOS Dr Edeinton Arumugam, Hon Secretary IOS Dr Sanjay Labh and President IOS Dr Jayesh S Rahalkar in attendance. Dr Bhuminathan S, Registrar, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research was invited as the Chief Guest for the evening. Dr A Venkatesan, Mr Rajagopal and Ms Tanya Kapoor, advocates, were felicitated by the head office during the inauguration.

E-poster competition for both student and member delegates was held simultaneously on the 15 th March 2024 at Sree Balaji Dental College with 45 poster submissions across various categories of Aligner Orthodontics and Lingual Orthodontics including Clinical, Research and Clinical Innovations.

The Main Scientific program was held from 8.30am-7pm on both 16 th and 17 th March 2024, with a stellar delegate attendance throughout. A total of 19 eminent speakers had delivered guest lectures on various facets of Invisible Orthodontics such as Aligner Biomechanics, Lingual Biomechanics, aligner protocols, management of different malocclusions among growing and non-growing patients with aligners, finishing of cases with both aligners and lingual appliances, troubleshooting and evidence-based practices. The spectacular gallery of speakers included Dr Sujan Kumar, Dr N R Krishnaswamy, Dr Arun Nayak, Dr Prashantha GS,

Dr Sanjay Labh, Dr Surya Kanta Das, Dr Jignesh Kothari, Dr Dhiraj Shetty, Dr Vijjaykanth Muthukumar, and Dr Kirubaharan on day 1; followed by Dr Chintan Valia, Dr Prahlad Shenava, Dr Padmapriya CV, Dr Tapasya Kapoor, Dr Deepak Victor, Dr Kavitha Iyer, Dr Badri Thiruvenkatachari, Dr Gurkeerat Singh and Dr Dharmadeep on day 2. The scientific program concluded on a high note with a debate on In-Office versus Branded Aligners moderated by Dr Deepak Chandra and Dr Dilip S with Dr Sangeetha Duraisamy, Dr Uma Revathi and Dr Bhadrinath S favoring Branded Aligners while Dr Vijjaykanth Muthukumar, Dr Sumanth R and Dr Saravanan B advocating the use of In-Office Aligners.

In conclusion, after the three-day symposium of elaborate hand-on pre-conference courses, all-exhausting series of guest lectures followed by a thought-provoking debate by expert panelists, the audience were presented with a road map for practicing safe and evidence supported Invisible Orthodontics.
