On 5th June 2025, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital conducted a comprehensive Anti-Tobacco Awareness Program, which included tobacco cessation counselling, oral health screening, and a skit performance. The event was aimed at educating patients and visitors on the harmful effects of tobacco and encouraging early detection and cessation.

The program began with oral health screening for patients visiting the Outpatient Department. Dental professionals conducted thorough examinations, focusing on early signs of tobacco-related conditions such as leukoplakia, oral submucous fibrosis, and precancerous lesions. Those found with suspicious symptoms were referred for further evaluation and follow-up care. Simultaneously, a dedicated tobacco cessation counselling session was held by the Department of Public Health Dentistry. Patients received personalized advice on quitting tobacco, were informed about the physical and psychological effects of tobacco use, and were encouraged to enroll in cessation support programs available at the hospital.

A skit performance by dental students followed, staged in the OPD waiting area. The skit creatively depicted the dangers of tobacco addiction, its consequences on health and family, and the hope and benefits of quitting.

Using a mix of drama, humor, and emotion, the performance left a strong impact on the audience.The event saw active participation and appreciation from patients, their attendants, and hospital staff. Many individuals showed interest in further counselling and follow-up treatment.This initiative reaffirmed Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital’s commitment to preventive healthcare, raising awareness, and motivating the community to adopt a tobacco-free lifestyle through education, early detection, and creative outreach methods.
