The subject Microbiology is taught in the II BDS year. The syllabus is formulated in such a way to introduce the role of microorganisms in infectious diseases. The curriculum in Microbiology also covers the fundamental aspects of General Microbiology, Immunology, Systematic Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology and Diagnostic Medical Microbiology.
The curriculum further enriches the knowledge in Emerging and Re-emerging infections, the development of new vaccines, drugs and Biotechnology. Students are coached with visual-aids and power point teaching. Students are engaged to give seminars on the current topics in Microbiology related to dentistry. Group discussions are periodically conducted to gain knowledge in Clinical and Diagnostic Microbiology.
The Post-Graduate program was started in the year 1999. This subject is taught in the MDS 1st year to refresh their knowledge in the different aspects of Microbiology (Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology and Molecular Microbiology). The faculties of the Microbiology Department play a vital role in motivating and guiding the post graduate students of various dental disciplines in research. The faculties also contribute in the publication of their research work in International/ National, peer reviewed journals indexed in pubmed, medline and scopus. The faculties of the department encourage and guide the post graduate students to participate in various international and national seminars and conferences.
