INTRODUCTION TO THE SPECIALITY

Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, being one of the oldest branches of dental sciences, has witnessed significant advancements and transformations over the past five decades. These developments have revolutionized the scope of the subject, elevating it to the realm of advanced research and clinical practice. The speciality of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics holds a pivotal role in dentistry, contributing significantly to contemporary clinical practice. Our department encompasses two distinct specialties: Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics.

Conservative Dentistry focuses on the preservation, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseased, defective, or infected teeth. It also encompasses cosmetic/aesthetic corrections, emphasizing the protection of natural dentition. Within our department, we offer a range of esthetic treatment procedures, such as smile design and tooth whitening, at subsidized rates. Additionally, we provide other conservative treatment procedures, including indirect esthetic restorations, veneers, inlays, onlays, porcelain crowns, and composite restorations.

Endodontics specializes in root canal treatment, endodontic surgery, and related therapies. We offer endodontic treatment to patients with pulpal diseases, utilizing various procedures such as root canal treatments, hemisections, splinting, perforation repair, periapical surgery, and more.

Our department excels in effectively performing these treatment procedures, aiming to restore natural smiles and optimal oral function for our patients. Since 1997, we have been pioneers in offering a postgraduate course, which has gained recognition for providing exceptional clinical exposure. With a substantial number of outpatient cases, second only to the Government Dental College, our postgraduate course sets a high standard. Equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and materials, including the Carl Zeiss Dental Operating Microscope with Mora Interface, our department ensures students receive the highest quality education from our dedicated faculty, who are committed to shaping them into proficient professionals.

We have well-equipped facilities, including the latest equipment and materials, a sterilization room, reception area, laboratory, store room, seminar room, and separate clinics for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. A specialized clinic for Endodontic surgery, furnished with a dental operating microscope, further enhances our capabilities.

Our educational focus encompasses vital aspects of private dentistry, addressing the areas where dentists spend the majority of their time. As a result, we bear a significant responsibility in producing world-class students in these areas. Our staff members are highly trained to impart the latest knowledge to students and supervise them in the clinical setting, guiding them in the utilization of modern techniques in dentistry. With our dedicated Curricular Division, we ensure adherence to current and innovative teaching methods, aligning our curriculam with the best international dental practices.

FACULTY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department is headed by myself Professor Dr. A.Subbiya, M.D.S.

Joined Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in 1997. Myself being a dedicated and compassionate dental professional with 105 publications in various national and international journals and 150 citations. I have attended over 60 national and international conferences and delivered over 20 guest lectures in various conferences and CDE Programs.

Myself and my team have organized about 6 international conferences, 10 CDE Programs, 8 webinars and over 20 workshops / symposiums/ faculty development programs/ pre-conferences courses etc. I was awarded the “Best teacher–in 2014” and “Diplomate Award in Indian Board of Endodontics in April 2017”. I have filled and published two patents under my name. Am currently Vice President of “Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics Association of Tamilnadu” (CEAT) with more than 23 years of teaching and clinical experience.

There are 7 Professors , 4 Readers and 1 Senior Lecturer in our department. All the faculty are actively involved in teaching and other various training programs. They are actively involved in various aspects of Dental Research both laboratory and clinical research which has extrapolated in the form of more than 500 publications in the last 10 years and a hand full of patents to our credit.

My dedicated team and P.G Students are involved in service rendering to the community, and spend many hours working on patients, on an average, covering more than 300 root canal treatments per month. We are proud to contribute to the dental health (and thereby also the general health) of our population.

We not only ensure our patients get care of international standards but also make sure the undergraduate and postgraduate students are trained under the ultimate standard of education and clinical training. The faculty encourages students in research and have ensured a maximum research output in form of presentations and publications in conferences and journal of high repute.

By continuous motivation and training we have produced intellectual, skilful, ethical and compassionate students who have established themselves as Alumni of high repute. It is our mission to continue in our goal to constantly strive to provide a better dental fraternity for a healthy society.
