Overview
Department of Pedodontics at SBDCH is dedicated to aid in comprehensive dental care for children from infancy through adolescence where the specialist provides essential and complete oral health care. Care of medically and developmentally compromised and disabled children are also at our priority in this specialty. An extensive curriculum with imperative didactic background and vast clinical experience helps students to foster a holistic approach in disciplines such as behavior guidance, care of the medically and developmentally compromised and disabled patient, supervision of orofacial growth and development, caries prevention, sedation, pharmacological management, and hospital dentistry, as well as other traditional fields of dentistry.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Pedodontics was started in the year 1989. By the year 2007, Post Graduate programme was started with Dr. A. Ponnudurai as the Head of the department. Through these years under his guidance 15 batches of PG students have successfully passed out. Under the Head of the department we have one senior professor, one reader and four senior lecturers at service who shower knowledge to the students.
VISION AND MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
To impart knowledge and skills to the young Pedodontists, who would in turn treat children empathetically providing comprehensive oral health care. Providing dental health services beyond perceptions, thus maintaining good oral hygiene status, for children in and around our locality.
TRUST AREA OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department have the facilities for treating cases under Conscious sedation and General Anesthesia. Fully Digitalised radiography systems for better treatment planning. We are equipped with full trauma sets for emergency trauma care. We conduct programmes like PALS (Pediatric Advance Life Support-TACT), LASERS in pediatric dentistry. Students also attend national and international conferences and other CDE programmes in various colleges.
RESEARCH CENTERS AND ASSOCIATED RESEARCH ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
We have MOUs with Chiang Mai university, Thailand and University of Malaya, Malaysia offering student exchange programs. We also have an Collaboration with IIT MADRAS, to assist and aid in research activities. Our department has a collaboration with department of orthodontics who have a research center for cleft lip and cleft palate (SMILE TRAIN).
