An Anti-Tobacco Awareness Program was organized by Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital on 24/5/2025 at Independence Park, Nanganallur, as part of its ongoing community outreach and public health initiatives. The event aimed to raise awareness among the general public about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and the importance of quitting tobacco for a healthier life.
The program commenced at 7:30 AM with a welcome note by faculty members, followed by an informative session conducted by dental interns and public health professionals. The session highlighted the ill effects of tobacco on oral and general health, including its strong link to oral cancer, lung diseases, and cardiovascular complications.
Educational pamphlets in both English and Tamil were distributed, and interactive models demonstrating the progression of oral cancer due to tobacco use were showcased. Visitors were encouraged to take part in one-on-one counseling sessions, where 156 individuals received personalized guidance and motivational support to consider quitting tobacco.
In addition, posters and banners were displayed around the park to visually communicate the consequences of tobacco use. The public responded positively, and many expressed appreciation for the initiative, especially for bringing health education to a community-friendly location like the park.
This initiative reflects Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital’s commitment to community wellness and preventive healthcare, emphasizing education as a powerful tool in the fight against tobacco addiction.
