Additionally, it emphasizes teaching dental students about their responsibilities by providing a variety of public health and preventive services to rural population.

The Department of Public Health Dentistry strives to make the students complete oral physicians who can address problems from its root and believe in eradicating it completely. Oral health services are predominantly urban oriented. To overcome this issue and make all specialty services available to the rural population, the department has a holistic approach wherein the students are trained to address problems related to the rural population, by using health talks to address problems like personal hygiene, water conservation, air pollution etc. The students are also sensitized to approach the problems of the patient from a cultural context, and provide comprehensive treatment.
Since the inception of the department, a number of health programmes (treatment and check up camps) comprising of diagnosis, restorative treatment, exodontias, oral prophylaxis, oral health awareness, general health awareness etc. have been conducted.
The Department of Public Health Dentistry aspires to Train young professionals to support le arning and knowledge acquisition, attainment of fundamental dental skills, development of he althy dental attitudes and habits, and comprehension of professional and ethical principles.
To provide everyone with access to oral health care that is accessible, universal, and scientifically acceptable.
