Overview

Welcome to the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital. The department was inducted in the year 1989.

The pharmacology department is a part of basic medical sciences in dentistry. The course will enable the students to apply the knowledge of the basic biomedical sciences (e.g., physiology, biochemistry, genetics, pathology) to the evaluation of drug actions. The department encompasses energetic and enthusiastic faculties with strong backgrounds in theoretical and practical aspects of drugs, their kinetics, dynamics, and toxicity potential, and demonstrate knowledge of the impact of Pharmacology on patient care with respect to the safe and efficient use of drugs.

The department's teaching focus includes training undergraduates (BDS) and postgraduates (MDS) in compliance with university and DCI norms. The department strives to recognize the potential of every individual through seminars, and debates to improve communicative skills and cherishes the innovative ideas of every student to encourage Professional capacity/autonomy

To enrich the research and development and strengthen our program our department creates space to house visiting faculties from Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, USA, Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Immuno-oncology|Tumor Immunology.Waltham, Massachusetts, United States, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School Boston, United States, Merck Research Laboratory (MRL), Kenilworth, New Jersey.USA

The students are motivated to conduct research to gain insights into the multifaceted area to equip themselves with the latest advances in Pharmacotherapeutics. The students become independent and acquire skills in experimental design, data collection, and interpretation of results as the concept of interdisciplinary research is incorporated during their coursework to keep in pace with currents trends in pharmacological research and attain conceptual knowledge and research competency to discern whether scientific principles can be applied to investigate a question or solve a problem.

The interdisciplinary research at the forefront, the department faculties have published their research articles in high-quality peer-reviewed Q1 index journals Bioresource Technology(11.88), Chemosphere( 8.9), SETA(7.632), Environmental Research(IF8.4), Biosensors(5.7), JKSUS(3.89) and 11 patents to their credit.

Our department fosters interest in developing an inquisitive attitude in gaining extensive knowledge in Pharmacology. The theme of the Dentopharm webinar series, conferences, symposiums, and guest lectures is to explore multidisciplinary research with a multifaceted approach in a diversified field of science and technology for versatile participants through the real-life experiences of eminent speakers. Dentopharm-22 Bonanza includes 1 international webinar, 1 International conference, and national conference, 2 Guest lectures.

VISION

The department endeavours to emphasize research-based learning and the creation of knowledge under the academic purview to inculcate students with a sense of excellence not only in the related subject area but also in scientific research that will facilitate their transformation into confident and independent scholars with the ultimate goal of improving human health.

Mission

  • The mission of our department is to make the students familiar with the safety, efficacy, and toxicity of the medications in humans.
  • The knowledge gained from learning through effective teaching strategies will impart relevant information to students to develop their analytical and intellectual skills to investigate the novel discovery of drugs.
  • The focus of the department will be to equip them with skills to explore the maximum possible utilization of drugs with minimal side effects for major ailments.
  • The value-added courses will aid them in capacity building including verbal and nonverbal communication skills, personality development, and writing review and research articles and publications
