Welcome to 3rd International conference - ECCLIRES 2021

“Learning gives creativity, Creativity leads to thinking, Thinking leads to knowledge, Knowledge makes you great.” - Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

In this quest for knowledge and to create a platform for learning , our team from the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Sree Balaji Dental College conducted the online 3rd International conference of ECCLIRES 2021, on 21st, 22nd and 23rd of December 2021. We received an overwhelming response with around 500 attendees and 120 scientific paper presentations from all over the country.

Invited scientific talk

The three day conference schedule included four guest lectures and 120 competing scientific paper presentations. We had two internationally acclaimed speakers Prof. Paul V. Abbott, Winthrop Professor of Clinical Dentistry, University of Western Australia, and Prof. N. Srinivasan, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar and two nationally renowned speakers Dr. A. R. Pradeep Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Thai Moogambigai Dental College and Hospital, Chennai and Dr.Dipali Shah, Professor and Head, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, at Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital, Pune. All guest lectures were followed by an interactive Q & A session.

The event started exactly 9:30am with an inauguration function which included a welcome note by Dr.A.Subbiya, Chairman of the organising committee. The first guest lecture was by Prof. Paul V. Abbott about “cracking the code to the Management of Cracked Teeth” in which he emphasised on defining and diagnosing cracks, understanding their biological and pulp implications, plus how to manage cracks in teeth, especially in teeth with reversible pulpitis. This session was chaired expertly by Dr. A. R. Pradeep Kumar. The second guest lecture was by Prof.Dr. A.R. Pradeep Kumar on “Vertical root fractures-etiology and prevention”. He went on to clarify its aetiology, clinical features and radiographic features in teeth with and without root canal treatment. This session was chaired excellently by Prof. Dr Velmurugan who led the queries from delegates.

The second day of the conference started off promptly at 9:00 am with a guest lecture on “sample size calculation for various study designs” by Prof. N. Srinivasan with emphasis on relevant terminologies and factors to consider while determining the sample size and the steps involved in its estimation for various study designs. The session was chaired by Prof.Dr.S.Mahalaxmi. The last lecture of the conference was on a very debatable and interesting topic, “Clinical variables in direct pulp capping and pulpotomy” by Prof.Dr Dipali Shah. She spoke on diagnostic considerations, variables in clinical caries and pulp management protocols, along with a deeper understanding of pulp biology and biomaterials to potentiate favorable biologic responses in pulp capping and pulpotomy for permanent teeth. This session was chaired by Prof. Dr.S.Kavitha.

Delegate competitive paper presentations

We received 120 scientific paper presentations which included 67 original research, 55 case reports and 4 systematic reviews by our enthusiastic participants. We were humbled by the overwhelming response for scientific paper presentations received from our delegates and students. In our endeavour to accommodate all the papers, we planned to dedicate the afternoon sessions of first two days and the entire third day of the conference to scientific paper presentations. Our scientific committee proficiently scheduled the papers in over 30 hour long sessions and invited 60 chairpersons from various dental colleges to evaluate the sessions. The chairpersons were given scoring sheets for evaluating each paper presented on its clinical significance, relevance to the field and knowledge of the presenter on that topic. 31 best papers were awarded based on the aggregate marks given by the chairperson. Our postgraduate students Dr Bharadwaj, Dr Saatwika, Dr Sangavi and Dr Shobhana were among the best paper awardees. The following is the list of best paper winners of ECCLIRES 2021.
